Light Sport Aircraft rental is a great idea to save money, or perhaps have more flexibility in your flying schedule. You can rent an airplane light-sport aircraft (LSA) from a local flight school or fixed-base operation (FBO). However, trike light-sport aircraft is not as easily available for rental.
And, not all flight schools or FBO’s have LSA’s yet. They’re coming, but it will take a while for LSA’s to be widely available.
You can also consider joining a flying club…they are often quite inexpensive yet usually offer more flexibility than traditional rental situations. Often clubs are chartered to not make a profit so the overhead is low.
It is not uncommon or it may be may be required to have pilot “renters insurance” if you are going to rent airplanes.
Find a LSA rental facility, a flying club near you and insurance agents that can provide renters insurance.
